Pioneering Scheme for School Music Lessons

A whole year group in every Primary School throughout East Chester is now receiving whole class instrumental or vocal tuition with Music for Life, a unique “not for profit” music education scheme working in partnership with Cheshire County Council...more>

Music for Life is an innovative, not for profit organisation established in 1995 to promote and arrange instrumental music tuition in Cheshire schools. Launched at Bishop Heber High School, Malpas, the scheme now works in 113 schools in Cheshire West and Chester and East Cheshire plus several others in Wirral, Stockport, and Staffordshire.

Our main aim is simple: to offer as many young people as possible the opportunity to learn a musical instrument successfully within school, and to introduce them to the truly life-enhancing dimension that music making can bring.

To achieve this, Music for Life offers a highly organized, coordinated and quality controlled structure which enables students to be taught by some of the very best teachers in the North West. There are also opportunities for MfL students to take part in exciting, motivational music groups, workshops and concerts free of extra charge. Bursaries are available to help with the cost of tuition for students facing financial disadvantage. Currently, well around 3,500 young people are members of the scheme having instrumental music lessons every week in school.”

We believe that Music for Life offers something utterly different and uniquely special to schools that wish to offer their pupils the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, and to their students who wish to develop a life long interest in music. There is now substantial, independent evidence to back up our claim. See the section “Why choose Music for Life?” for more details.

Whether you are a student or parent, an instrumental music teacher or a class music teacher, I hope you will find all the information you need about Music for Life here. Music for Life is a music service provided by teachers with a passionate belief in, and enthusiasm for, music education.
