Dave Speakman is a versatile singer/guitarist from Cheshire, UK. Dave plays many styles of music ranging from jazz to folk to rock, soul and funk. Dave began playing the guitar aged 14 and was gigging professionally at 16 years old. Dave is emotionally connected to the music he involves himself with. It is this fierce emotional drive that has propelled Dave into a full time career as a professional musician. Dave’s understanding of music harmony and theory has enabled him to become a prolific improviser, composer and arranger. Dave studied music performance and composition at Salford University where he was lucky enough to receive tuition from some of the UK’s top jazz musicians including Mike Walker, Dave Hassel and Robin Dewhurst. Working as a musician has taken Dave all over Europe and has offered him opportunities to play on BBC radio and in many of the UK’s best jazz clubs, hotels, restaurants, festivals, theatres and recording studios. Dave’s career has seen him performing with Kristyna Myles and Andy Prior along with members of The Kooks, The Cinematic Orchestra, Lamb and Aim. Dave has provided tuition in guitar, music technology, composition and music theory since 1997 covering all ages and levels. He has taken pupils through various graded exams (ABRSM, Rockscool, Trinity/Guildhall – grades 1 – 8), aided pupils with performance, music theory, music technology and composition aspects of BTEC, A-Level and GCSE music. In addition, he is experienced in teaching beginners of all ages. His main areas of expertise lies in electric guitar (particularly blues, jazz, rock and folk), computer based music, music technology and music theory.
