Gillian Blair MMus (Music Performance)


Gillian studied saxophone at the Royal Northern College of Music where she was awarded a First Class Bachelors degree and a Master of Music degree with Distinction. She now enjoys a varied career as a concert saxophonist, chamber and orchestral musician and woodwind teacher. She is a tutor of Saxophone and Chamber Music at the Junior Royal Northern College of Music, Head of Woodwind at Holy Cross College, and teaches a number of pupils at the Universities of Sheffield and Huddersfield. Her performance work has taken her all over the world including concerts in Japan, Croatia, USA, France, Luxembourg and Portugal as well as several appearances at the BBC Proms and live on BBC Radio 3. She has appeared as a soloist with ensembles including the Band of the Coldstream Guards, Commonwealth String Orchestra, Piccadilly Symphony Orchestra and the University of Arkansas Saxophone Ensemble. She performs regularly with chamber ensembles including the Polaris Duo and the Borealis Saxophone Quartet, and with larger ensembles including the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra of Opera North and the Royal Northern Sinfonia.
