Paul is a professional musician, teacher, bandleader, composer and arranger. He started out on clarinet aged 10, adding alto sax when he was 12.  Paul had lessons from Professor Stephen Trier (Professor of saxophone at the Royal Academy of Music in London) in 1980, and later with world class jazz saxophonist Peter King.  On clarinet, he was a pupil of Leonard Foster (BBC Symphony Orchestra and 16 years with the Halle Orchestra ).  Paul turned professional at 19 and was a member of “The Beale St Blues Band” (a very successful North West blues band) for several years, enjoying success in a host of clubs and festivals across the UK. Over the last 25 years or so, he  has had the pleasure of performing and working with Mojo Bufford  (Muddy Waters Band), Peter King, Lou Donaldson (legendary American jazz saxophonist), Bill Perkins (ex Duke Ellington Band), Johnny Dankworth, Diana Ross and many others. He has played in funk, soul and various jazz outfits over the years which also includes work for BBC Radio and ITV. As a teacher, Paul has worked successfully with pupils of all ages, and is keen to be able to pass on his enthusiasm for music, and his great experience as a musician, to the young people he teaches.
