Colin Jones Dip.Mus, BA(Open)

Brass

Colin first picked up a brass instrument at the age of 8 – initially the school euphonium, moving quickly to the cornet before settling on the trumpet. Although classically trained, he gained brass band, big band and concert band experience though college and enjoyed performing in many musical productions. At the age of 13 he began working semi- professionally playing trumpet and keyboards with a Soul and Motown band performing around Shropshire and the West Midlands. In recent years he has developed a teaching business working with pupils on a one to one basis, and has been involved in the setting up and running of whole class brass tuition involving cornets, trombones and tenor horns. He has also delivered whole-class song writing and recording workshops in primary schools. He continues to pursue his academic interest in music with ongoing research and study including a recent consultation with top trumpet player Jon Scott (Jools Holland’s R&B Orchestra) to ensure he offers the best advice and training to his own students. In addition to his teaching commitments, Colin performs regularly throughout the UK with various bands at theatres, music venues and holiday centres, and is a regular on the Indian wedding circuit performing with a traditional Baja Band.
