Music for Life Junior Orchestra

About the group
This orchestra is unique in Cheshire. It has performed at many superb events at venues such as the Crewe Lyceum Theatre, Chester’s Northgate Arena, Chester Town Hall and Oulton Park Racing Circuit (!). It has also given a live radio broadcast! The Orchestra has developed a reputation for involving young musicians in exciting, contemporary music making. One of its strengths is that all the music is written or arranged specifically for the players in the group by its Musical Director, Ashley Thompson.

Who is the orchestra suitable for? 
Membership is open to those students in Y3 – Y8 who play at Grade 1 standard or above; if in doubt, children should ask their instrument teacher whether they should join. Instruments eligible are: violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, trumpet, cornet, horn, trombone.

When are rehearsals held? 
Normally once a month alternating between Saturdays and Sundays from 10am - 12.30pm. Children come from all over Cheshire to play with this orchestra, so we only rehearse once a month. This keeps the commitment for parents to transport children to the minimum – there are usually only 9 rehearsals a year.

What should children bring? 
Just their instrument, a music stand and a snack and drink.

What is the cost of membership? 
Membership of the group is completely free to Music for Life students. Students who do not learn with Music for Life are very welcome to join for a small fee of £45 per year (£15 per term).

How do we join? 
Just contact us by email or phone to register an interest and we will then send an application form out to you. Following advice from Cheshire County Council, we require all parents to register their children in writing by either completing and posting a registration form or by confirming by email.
